Sweetwater Creek State Park offers winding, moderately difficult trails with creek crossings in and around the park, following the lovely rapids of Sweetwater Creek, and venturing past CivilWar-era textile mill ruins. The course terrain varies greatly from flat sandy surfaces to comfortable trail to technical trail, to monster hills to water crossings. No wheels of any kind or pets are allowed on the course. The course will be marked with orange flagging and bright yellow signs. While we work diligently to mark the course well, participants are encouraged to be familiar with the course map. Course monitors are stationed at aid stations checking race numbers to keep track of runners on the course. If you need to drop, please notify someone at an aid station and/or check in with someone at the Group Shelter near the finish area.
Please remember that this event is a trail ultramarathon. It will not be exactly 50K, and typically runs slightly long. Weather conditions are usually warm (average high is 74 degrees), so plan and run the race accordingly using proper hydration and fueling.
Awards will go to Women/Men: Top 3 overall and 1st place Senior Masters (60+). No duplication of awards.
Race Day packet pick-up will be from 6:30 a.m. until 15 minutes prior to the start of the race at the Group Shelter.
Aid stations will be located every 3-6 miles throughout the course. Stations will offer typical ultra aid station food including: water, sports drink, sandwiches, candy, cookies, chips, first aid items and support. Course monitors will also record race numbers at aid stations, so please ensure that your race number is visible.
All participants should carry their own means of hydration based on their personal preference, such as a handheld water bottle, waist pack or backpack device.
Runners may leave drop bags at the Group Shelter in the area provided on race morning. Drop bags will be brought to the river crossing. They will be returned to the Group Shelter after all runners have passed through.
There will be post run refueling of the traditional BBQ chicken, beverages and sides.
Course will be open for 9 hours, with all aid stations closing at 4:15 p.m. Intermediate cut offs include: Any runners who arrive at the creek crossing after 12:30 p.m. will be asked to return to the start/finish area. Any runners arriving at the School Spur for the second time after 3:00 p.m. will be brought back to the start/finish area. The 9 hour time limit and cut offs will be strictly enforced, so please train accordingly as this race is not meant to be a hike.
Race results will be posted on the Douglas County Rogue Runners website.
